About Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc.

Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. is a new, licensed Child Care centre in Port Perry operated by experienced Early Childhood Educators.

We pride ourselves with our active involvement within the community through the following projects:

• Sponsorship of Cartwright Minor Baseball Team
• Sponsorship of Port Perry Mustangs Baseball Team
• Member of Umbrella Central Day Care Services
• Active Supporter of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care

Our Approach to Learning

Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. promotes a dramatic, hands-on, creative approach to learning. We use an eclectic style of program, including Reggio Emelia’s Project Approach. This approach to early childhood education creates an environment that fosters wonder and imagination by encouraging children to learn through play and exploration.

Our Facilities

Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. emphasizes the importance of safe, quality care through:

1. Enhanced staffing that exceeds Provincial Standards.

2. A facility monitored and protected by a security system.

3. Bus transportation for the School-Age Program.

4. Main-level care with large windows, allowing for the maximum amount of natural light.

5. An air-conditioned facility.

The Curiosity Philosophy

Some fundamental ideas of the Curiosity philosophy are the following:

• Every child learns and communicates in their own way - all are acknowledged and celebrated at Curiosity Children's Centre Inc.

• Each child is a competent individual capable of “finding out” what they need to know. A child often learns through trial-and-error, and “mistakes” are stepping-stones to knowledge.

• “Children have their own rhythm and sense of time.” This is a very important consideration when planning activities. Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. ensures children are always afforded the opportunity to return their favourite projects. Projects are viewed as an active part of school life and may last for a day, a week, or a year - depending on the child’s passion and curiosity. Themes develop from children's ideas and interests, supporting the desire for lifelong learning.

• Teachers are aware of each child's potential and use this knowledge to create and maintain a stimulating environment, and to respond appropriately to each individual child. The teacher identifies what intrigues each child and encourages that interest to help motivate the child to learn.

• The “environment” has equal significance to the child as the teacher. Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. is designed to provide the tools to allow the children to learn by navigating through their own interests.

• Curiosity Children’s Centre Inc. believes the teacher's role is as a resource, a listener, a nurturer, a friend, and a motivator for further development.
